Origin of the Name Alabama – Alabama means “tribal town” in the language of the local Creek Indians
The capital of the Alabama State is Montgomery. As a separate territory and state since 1817, but was admitted to statehood in December 14, 1819 as the 22nd state in the USA. Montgomery was not the first capital of Alabama; it was actually the fifth. Montgomery is the capital and second most populous city of the U.S. state of Alabama and the county seat of Montgomery County. Montgomery is notable for its historic involvement during the Civil War, for being the first capital of the Confederacy, and for being a primary site in the Civil Rights Movement.
State Motto – “Audemus jura nostra defendere” – We Dare Defend Our Rights.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 800 square miles (2,071 km²), of which 790 square miles (2,045 km²) are land and 10 square miles (26 km²) (1.25%) are water.
The last record of the population was done in a 2000 and there were 223,510 persons so the population density was 283 persons per square mile (109/km²)
The official state flag of Alabama is called the “crimson cross of St. Andrew’s,” a red cross on a white background. This flag was adopted in 1895, and was patterned from the Confederate Battle Flag. This flag can be any type of rectangle (even a square) but the crimson bars must be six inches wide.
